Westbridge Academy is a nonprofit, state-approved K–12 private school serving students with emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges. We are seeking a mission-driven, detail-oriented, and self-motivated Business Manager to join our leadership team and support our school’s next chapter.
About the Role
As Business Manager, you will support the Executive Director and leadership team while leading all day-to-day and long-term financial operations. You will be responsible for managing fiscal compliance with the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) and the APSSD Administrative Code, while also ensuring that Westbridge remains transparent, audit-ready, and financially sound. This is a high-trust position requiring excellent organizational skills, a professional presence, and a positive, proactive attitude.
Free APSSD-specific training will be provided.
Responsibilities
You will be tasked with handling essential financial operations, including keeping accurate records of financial transactions, verifying and recording entries, maintaining organized documentation, and ensuring Westbridge’s financial position is up to date and compliant.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain financial records including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments
- Manage accounts payable and receivable
- Maintain ledgers and daily financial transactions
- Conduct monthly and periodic reconciliation of all accounts and every bank account
- Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reports
- Prepare reports such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and business activity reports
- Process payroll and administer HR-related benefits
- Submit reports via the NJDOE portal and align reporting with the NJDOE Chart of Accounts
- Coordinate and participate in annual audits and APSSD compliance reviews
- Collaborate with external auditors, consultants, and DOE representatives
- Present financial reports to the Board of Trustees three times annually
- Support fundraising-related financial activity
- Represent Westbridge in state-level advocacy or meetings in Trenton, when needed
- Continuously improve internal processes and bring a technology-forward mindset to the Business Office
Qualifications
- CPA or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- Bachelor's degree with significant bookkeeping/accounting experience will be considered
- Proven experience in financial management, bookkeeping, or nonprofit/school accounting
- Solid understanding of accounts payable/receivable principles
- High degree of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Excel and financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, Systems 3000)
- Familiarity with applicable nonprofit laws, codes, and reporting standards
- Strong communication and administrative skills
- Self-motivated, technology-forward, and able to work independently
- Positive attitude with a commitment to the mission of special education
