One on One Aide
Required Certifications (s) and/or Degree: NJ Substitute Certification or 60 College Credits
Reports to: Classroom Teacher/Principal
Position Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties such as proctoring study halls to enable them to make a contribution to other aspects of the educational program, such as curriculum development.
Essential Job Functions:
The one on one aide implements special education and provides direct instructional behavioral assistance to a student.
- Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction of lead teacher special education coordinator.
- Assist in the implementation of students individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Monitor student progress.
- Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
- Work with other professionals, including counselors, speech therapists, social workers, occupational therapist, and physical therapist, to ensure that students IEPs are properly implemented.
- Ability to verbally and physically deescalate acting out students using CPI approach training methods.
- Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
- Support students with emotional and behavioral concerns and assist in developing appropriate social skills.
- Assist in the preparation and display of student work.
